Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why would I need a lactation consultant?

Families seek professional assistance for many reasons. Some seek basic breastfeeding support and reinforcement when breastfeeding is smooth sailing. Others seek assistance for specific issues such as:

  • latching difficulty
  • sore or damaged nipples
  • jaundice
  • tongue/lip ties
  • milk supply or weight gain issues
  • engorgement/blocked milk ducts
  • breast infections/mastitis/thrush
  • pumping/returning to work/weaning

Will insurance pay for my lactation consult?

We recommend contacting your insurance provider to request pre-authorization to see an out-of-network provider (us). Be sure to mention that we are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and Registered Nurses. At the consult, you will be provided a receipt with appropriate insurance codes to reflect the appointment. You may choose to submit that receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement. You will find an article on insurance reimbursement for lactation services here.

When is payment due?

Payment in full is due at the time of the appointment. We accept cash, check and credit, including FSA.

What if my issues are not resolved in one home visit lactation consult? Do you offer additional appointments?

It would be our pleasure to see you more than once. Two weeks of phone and email contacts are included with your consult at no additional charge. If you need additional support or in-home consults, contact your IBCLC or schedule an appointment online. There is a reduced fee of $175 for follow-up visits.
